Suggested prompts will guide you as we write together, then share what our minds have illuminated (sharing is optional, and always encouraged). Coping 101: Managing Feelings of Anxiety Time 11:30 AM We will be kicking off our first session of this series talking about how to manage worrying about life’s unknowns (treatment, prognosis, outcome, caregiving, etc.) and letting go of control. We will be identifying “what is anxiety” and go over relaxation techniques to cope. We will also be engaging in mindful coloring together, so if you’re attending virtually, don’t forget to pick up your adult coloring book at one of our locations! Mindful Resilience Yoga Time 1:00 PM Move More Freely, Concentrate And Think More Clearly, Manage Stress More Easily, And Feel More At Ease. Mindful Resilience is a yoga program that includes instruction and practice with self-regulation tools. Caring FOR the Caregiver Time 3:00 PM Week One: 3/4 We will learn about the nervous system, our window of tolerance, and caregiver satisfaction. Week Two: 3/11 We will learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of caregiver fatigue to more easily live within the window of optimal caregiving satisfaction. Week Three: 3/18 We will discuss caregiver relationships, myths, and contributors to caregiver burnout. Beginners Tap Dance! Time 1:30 PM Come have fun and learn how to tap dance with this adult beginner tap class. Each class we will slowly and clearly guide you through the basic steps of tap dancing and learn a little choreography as well. Each month we will start a new choreography set. Meaning we will continually add on to the dance we learn throughout the month, so it's best to join at the top of the month! Don’t have tap shoes? No problem, wear your favorite tennis shoes or socks until you get the hang of the moves. Once you are hooked you can purchase your shoes. Info & Registration

The crush of caregiving responsibilities affects our emotions, finances, quality of life and health. Caregivers experience depression, physical ailments from either the physical demands of caregiving or its resultant stress, loss of income (that affects future Social Security income), loss of social engagement, and increasing resentfulness. Taking time for ourselves feels impossible yet it must occur. Working with the family or asking for help may feel messy at best. How can we make sense in an increasingly stressful and smothering experience? This workshop explores these emotions and tried-and-true strategies to survive this rugged experience. The Mindful Month: Reframe the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) With the Joy of Missing Out (JOMO) Time 10:00 AM Your opportunity to put mindful theory into practice! The first session of each month will introduce a mindfulness topic and the whys and ways to incorporate it in your life to enhance well-being. The second session of the month will be an introspective and supportive topical discussion of subsequent changes, challenges, and perspectives that participants have experienced in their awareness and mindfulness practice over the last two weeks. Angel Pillow Project Time 10:00 AM Angel Pillow was created to encourage healing, offer support and provide comfort to breast cancer patients. The heart-shaped pillows, created by breast cancer survivors, are used to soothe both physical and emotional pain immediately after surgery, radiation or other treatment. Time 5:00 PM The 'Love You, Get Screened' initiative, is a campaign aimed at informing our community of what cancer screening is, why it's important, who's eligible for screenings and free or low cost resources to proactively take control of our health! Those joining us tonight will enjoy dinner, an impactful presentation from our guest speakers, as well as an opportunity to create works of art, encouraging their loved ones to stay up to date with their cancer screenings as well. Ukrainian 'Pysanky' Egg Decorating Workshop Time 5:30 PM Learn the ancient craft of decorating eggsusing waxand liquid dyes. See a display of history and symbolism of the designs found on eggs, textiles & artwork. Susana will teach the traditional 'wax repel' method, melting the wax in a candle flame. Designs are drawn on the egg, which is then dipped in dye. This is repeated, melting off the layers of wax to reaveal a lovely design. * This class is geared towards adults. All supplies are provided and you will leave with a completed egg. The Mindful Month: Reframe the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) With the Joy of Missing Out (JOMO) Time 10:00 AM Your opportunity to put mindful theory into practice! The first session of each month will introduce a mindfulness topic and the whys and ways to incorporate it in your life to enhance well-being. The second session of the month will be an introspective and supportive topical discussion of subsequent changes, challenges, and perspectives that participants have experienced in their awareness and mindfulness practice over the last two weeks. Coping 101: Managing Difficult Emotions Time 11:30 AM Does the stress of cancer make you feel angry, sad, scared, or bring up any other emotions within you? In this session, we will discuss how to identify, label, and cope with difficult emotions the cancer journey brings. We will practice some relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, guided meditation, and grounding techniques. Each participant will receive handouts and an essential oil for this session, so don’t forget to pick up yours at one of our locations! Each class we will slowly and clearly guide you through the basic steps of tap dancing and learn a little choreography as well. Each month we will start a new choreography set. Meaning we will continually add on to the dance we learn throughout the month, so it's best to join at the top of the month! Don’t have tap shoes? Gilda's Hospital Partners Meet & Eat Event Time 9:00 AM A networking event hosted by Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit inviting our hospital and clinic partners in the Metro Detroit area into our NEW Detroit location inside of the Durfee Innovation Society. This event is designed to update our oncology professional partners on the exciting new programs Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit has to offer those impacted by cancer. We will also be welcoming guest speaker, Dr. Eve DePascale, PsyD from Henry Ford Health to highlight the importance of prioritizing our mental and emotional health to prevent burnout in the oncology space. A bag of Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit informational materials will be provided for each attendee to take back to their respective workplaces for their patients impacted by cancer.
